The Soundtrack of Mi Casita
From the very beginning, music has been as much a part of Mi Casita as the food. When Eric opened the restaurant in 2008, he filled the space with the sounds he loved most ~ a hippie-spirited mix of the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leon Russell, and James McMurtry. His playlist, now known as Mi Casita-1, carries that laid-back, soulful Americana energy. It’s a blend of jam bands, singer-songwriters, and roots rock that makes every visit feel like a timeless road trip.
When Liz, stepped in to carry on his legacy, she kept that foundation but also expanded the soundtrack to reflect her own influences. Mi Casita-2 layers in the heart of Classic Country and Texas songwriters ~ Gary Stewart, Steve Earl, Billy Joe Shaver, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen ~ alongside the power of Southern rock and blues from Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and ZZ Top. It even pulls in Soul, Motown, and Reggae ~ Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Bob Marley ~ making the atmosphere as eclectic as it is authentic.
Together, the two playlists tell a story: Eric’s hippie vibe and Liz’s country-roots-rock-soul mix come together to create a soundtrack that’s rowdy, soulful, and unmistakably Texan. It’s the kind of music that makes you want to stay a little longer, order one more taco, have another beer or margarita, and soak in the atmosphere that feels like home.
Today, Mi Casita remains a family-run, locally loved spot where scratch-made flavor, good music, and community come together. Pull up a chair, grab a plate, and stay awhile~you’re part of the family now..
